Today I found 12 cents . . . 1 dime and 2 pennies.

The first penny was found at North Station this morning, the second panny was found at the Kenmore stop by Fenway Park, and the dime was found after the game under a seat in the lower section of the ballpark.

Tuesday, April 29, 2008

Today I found 38 cents . . . 1 dime, 1 quarter, and 3 pennies.

I got to work early this morning so I headed down to the credit union located in my office building to return some pennies that I had searched the night before. Under a change counting machine in the credit union I found a single penny.

Walking to lunch this afternoon I found a penny in some dirt by a tree. Several co-workers were impressed with my keen eye.

Heading to the Green Line this afternoon to go to Fenway I found a dime by a Dunkin Donuts stand in the North Station terminal. It was by the foot of a blind man, so I made sure to ask him if he had dropped the dime prior to retrievning it. He hadn't, so I claimed it for my own.

After the Sox 1-0 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays (they are now 4-0 with me at the games) I found a quarter under a seat in the ballpark. Walking home from the game I spotted and retrieved a penny from the sidewalk along West Newton St.

Today I found 6 cents . . . all pennies.

From start to finish it was a long day, so I present my finds of the day with little comentary:

Penny #1: By a ticket machine at the New England Medical Center T stop.

Pennies #2-4: First penny at the base of a change counting machine, third and fourth pennies under the same machine.

Penny #5: By a Dunkin Donut stand in the North Station terminal.

Penny #6: On the ground by a cash register at Harry O's, a local sub shop.

I'm tired now so I'm heading to bed early tonight.

Sunday, April 27, 2008

Today I found 1 cent . . . a penny.

It was under a change counting machine at Stop and Shop, a local grocery store. I went there this afternoon for some groceries to get me through the week. I won't be having to cook that much, however, as I have tickets to the entire six games of the Red Sox homestand!

In some exciting change news I spoke with my former co-worker Jennifer this evening and she told me that several days ago when she got home there was a tennis ball on her lawn. When she picked it up she saw that there was a slit cut in the top and inside was 92 cents in change. I'm guessing that someone filled it with change to add some weight, so a dog could fetch the ball. Still, a good find by former co-worker Jennifer.

Today I found 3 cents. . . all pennies.

It was my first truly free Saturday in about a month so I took advantage and slept in and then took a walk over to the Back Bay Fens, a large green space by Fenway Park. Along the way I found a penny in some dirt by Chester Square along Mass Ave.

The second penny of the day was also found along the walk to the Back Bay Fens. This time, however, the penny was found on a sidewalk on Boylston St.

The final penny of the day was found by a park bench in the Back Bay Fens. I had walked past the bench, only to look back and spot the dirty penny at the base of the bench.

Today I found 42 cents. . . 1 nickel, 1 dime, 1 quarter, and 2 pennies (The Swell Change Cycle).

This morning I found a dime on the North Station platform as I exited my train. In the afternoon I found six cents (one nickel & one penny) under a change counting machine that is located in the building where I work.

When I got home this evening I went to do some laundry and found a penny in the Union Park Laundromat. The final find of the day, a quarter, was found in an otherwise empty parking spot along East Brookline St. I spotted and retrieved said quarter while walking home from doing my laundry.

Today I found 1 cent. . . a penny. I also found a Canadian penny, which sadly will not count toward the daily totals.

The lone penny was found this afternoon on the platform at North Station, where I was waiting to catch my train home.

The Canadian penny was found this morning near a newspaper box on Washington St. Although the Canadian penny will not count toward the daily totals it has already been placed in my "Not Change Cup," keeper of such found items.

Today I found 44 cents. . . 1 nickel, 1 dime, 1 quarter, and 4 pennies (The Great Change Cycle). I also found a Canadian penny, which sadly will not count toward the daily totals.

On my way to work this morning I found a nickel on the platform at North Station and then a dime by a ticket machine at North Station. When I took some coins to the bank this afternoon I found 26 cents (one quarter & one penny) under a change counting machine.

Heading home this evening I found three pennies. The first was by a Dunkin Donuts stand in North Station, the second was in some dirt by a lamp post, and the third penny of the day was at the post office.

The Canadian penny, which sadly will not count toward the daily totals, was found in a gutter by the street outside the post office. The Canadian penny has already been placed in my "Not Change Cup," keeper of such items.

Tuesday, April 22, 2008

Today I found 12 cents. . . all pennies.

The day started with a penny and ended with a penny, and lots of pennies in the middle. This morning at the Back Bay/South End T stop I found a penny by a vending cart. Shortly thereafter I hopped on the T and headed to North Station. While standing I spotted a penny on the ground, and just prior to exiting the T I was able to pick it up off of the floor.

When I walked through the North Station terminal heading into work I spotted and retrieved seven pennies from the floor. They were all together, were close to the door, and in close proximity to a trash can.

Heading out to lunch this afternoon I found a penny in the street as I crossed Causeway and another penny at the place where I had lunch (a burito shop, the name of which I can't remember).

The final penny of the day came this evening when I headed out for some dinner. I picked the penny up off of the floor at Harry O's, a local sub shop.

Today I found 40 cents. . . 1 dime, 1 quarter, and 5 pennies.

Patriot's Day in Boston, a statewide holiday, but I still had to work. On the way to the office I found a penny by a Dunkin Donuts stand at the Back Bay/South End T stop. During the day I took some pennies and nickels to a change counting machine in the building where I work and I found 28 cents (one quarter & three pennies) under the machine. On the way home I found 11 cents (one dime & one penny) by two different parking meters.

As promised I have some thoughts on the Newseum, the news museum that I visited in DC several Sundays ago. I actually liked my visit to the Newseum. It was the grand re-opening so it was free over the weekend, but I don't think I would have paid the $20 that they normally charge.

Some of the highlights included a radio tower that had been atop the World Trade Center, a 18 foot chunk of the Berlin Wall, a car driven by a reporter that had been bombed, and several movie theaters with various news highlights.

However, the best part of the museum as far as I was concerned was an exhibit that they had on Pulitzer Prize winning photos. I have always liked photography, and some of the pictures that they had were really amazing. Adding to that there were newspapers going back to the 1500's and it was a nice place to visit.

Sunday, April 20, 2008

Today I found $1.29. . . 1 quarter, 1 Susan B. Anthony dollar coin, and 4 pennies.

Continuing to adjust to my new city I hit my third Red Sox game in a row this afternoon. Walking to the game I found a penny in some dirt by a gutter and then near the ballpark I picked up a Susan B. Anthony dollar coin at the base of a sausage cart outside of Fenway.

In the park I found a penny under a seat prior to the game and then 27 cents (one quarter & two pennies) under different seats after the game. Walking home I found my final penny at the base of a parking meter.

I was a little worried when I stepped into Fenway on Friday because I wasn't sure what the autograph situation was going to be like. Every series that I attend I like to do a team ball for the visiting team. With the number of fans at Fenway I wasn't sure how I was going to do. I'm happy to report that I was able to get 18 of 25 Texas Rangers and the manager during my three games. That's about my average, so there is a sense of relief that I'm not feeling. Now, if I only had more tickets to more games that would be great!

Tomorrow the long awaited Newseum review . . .

Today I found 62 cents . . . 1 dime, 2 quarters, and 2 pennies. I also found a Canadian nickel, which sadly will not count toward the daily totals.

Last night when I left Fenway Park it took me almost an hour to get home by train, even though I live less than three miles from the ballpark. I had tickets for the game this evening, so I decided to walk it and see if that would be faster.

On the walk to the park I found a dime and then a penny. The dime was in a gutter and the penny was on the ground outside Feneway by Gate D.

In an incredible stroke of luck I managed to sit in an empty seat in the front row behind the visitors dugout for the entire game. The seat costs $125 per game and offered a great view. After the game I found two quarters under seperate seats in the lower portion of the ballpark.

Walking home from the game I found a penny on Mass Ave and then the Canadian nickel by a parking meter on Washington St. Although the Canadian nickel will not cout toward the daily totals it has already been placed in my "Not Change Cup," keeper of such items.

Today I found 18 cent . . . 1 nickel, 1 dime, and 3 pennies.

On my way to work this morning I found two pennies at the Back Bay/South End T Stop. The first was by a Dunkin Donuts stand that I had never noticed before, and the second was at the base of a vending cart.

This evening I headed to my first Red Sox game as a Boston resident. I took the T to Kenmore Station (right by Fenway Park) and while leaving the station I found a penny at the base of a ticket machine.

In an excellent series of events the Red Sox had a great game (Big Papi had a Grand Slam) and more importantly I found 15 cents (one nickel & one dime) at Fenway Park after the game. Both coins were found under seperate seats in the lower section of the stadium on the third base side.

Today I found 1 cent . . . a penny.

Today was a stressful day and I thought my change streak might come to an end. No change on the way to work, at lunch, or on the way home from work. I went out this evening to get some dinner and on the way home I made a last ditch effort to find something. I stopped in at the Union Park Laundy facilities and found a penny on the floor by an otherwise empty dryer.

Today I found 42 cents . . . 2 nickels, 1 dime, and 22 pennies.

Back in Boston there have been some real changes since my departure, just over two weeks ago. First, there are now tables and chairs outside the restaurant that is located on the ground floor of the building where I live (hopefully a sign of Spring). More important, however, is that street cleaning has started. I can already tell that this is going to reduce the number of coins that I find in the gutters along the street.

Lucky for me I was able to find a penny this morning at the North Station t stop by a ticket machine. The remaining change was found under a coin counting machine located in the Federal Building in downwown Boston. This is where I dump my extra coins (no charge for members) and apparently the stash of coins that dropped build up while I was gone.

It was my last day in DC and to be honest I'm ready to get back to Boston. I took the metro to the airport and while walking through the exit turnstile I found 36 cents (on dime, one quarter, and one penny).

My plane had a layover in Cleveland, one that was extended by a few hours since there was a problem with the plane. While waiting at the airport I found a penny by a coffee stand.

A wonderful Saturday and I got to sleep in and then go meet up with an uncle to go to yet another Nationals game. Except for a brief rain delay and the fact that the Nationals lost 10-2 it was a beautiful day.

On the way home I stopped in at a gas station in Sykesville, MD to get a drink and I found 21 pennies near a vacuum cleaner and another penny by the front door to the gas station.

Crossing the street at Pennsylvania Ave I found a quarter in the intersection. Later in the day I found a dime in some dirt outside the Postal Museaum.

In the evening I headed to the Washington Nationals stadium to catch a baseball game (the third game that I have seen since getting to DC). On the way home I found a penny by a ticket machine and another penny near the stairs by the exit of the metro station.

In perhaps one of my best finds in the past three months I spotted a penny from about 25 feet away at the Chinatown metro stop. The floor is a brick red in color so spotting the dull penny made for the impressive find.

The second penny was found this afternoon at the Union Station food court in Washington, DC.
