Today I found 1 cent . . . a penny.

It was found by a Dunkin Donut stand at the North Station T stop. The stand was quite crowded, so it took some skills to retrieve the penny without causing a major disruption.

Totals for the day: 1 cent
Race Totals: $639.78

Welcome back and welcome to the northeast. Bottom line: winter sucks.

Be sure to check right near every parking meter you walk by. I've found that to be a great spot for change, especially pennies.

Good to be back . . . except for that winter thing.

I do check all the parking meters, but to date I haven't had much luck. The sidewalks seem much more lucrative, but I'm keeping my eyes open.

Other (sad) hints I have:

1) Check the tops of vending machines. People frequently put pennies up there for some reason.

2) Check under newspaper machines. These are easy to lift up on one edge. This takes more than one person, but works pretty well.

3) Use a ruler (or better yet a yard stick) to sweep under vending machines. This can be very lucrative, but makes one obviously look pretty desperate ... not an issue for us, but others find it very strange.

Great to have you in Boston. I'm enjoying your blog more than ever now that I know most of the areas you frequent.
