Today I found 22 cents . . .. 2 nickels, 1 dime, and 2 pennies.

This morning I found a 11 cents (one dime & one penny) in the Honolulu airport as I was boarding a plane to Maui, one of the major Hawaiian Islands. It was a last minute decision to visit Maui, but thanks to some very cheap inter-island flights it was quite affordable.

After landing in Maui I found a penny in the airport and another penny at the not so amazing Maui Mall, where we stopped for water. I also found a nickel outside the top rated (and perhaps only) Italian restaurant in Maui.

Still, Italian food and the Maui mall were not the reasons for the trip to Maui. The main reason was Haleakala, which is Hawaiian for House of the Sun. It is the largest mountain/dormant volcano in all of Maui and stands just over 10,000 feet high at the summit. Sadly, it was more like House of the Clouds on the day we visited, as you can see from this picture:

I am told that on a clear day you can see all the way to Honolulu. Today all I saw were a lot of clouds.

Totals for the day: 22 cents
Race Totals: $525.75
