Today I found 34 cents . . . 1 dime and 24 pennies. I also got Mark McGwire (the teaser from last night) to sign a baseball for me. Obviously, the Mark McGwire autograph does not count towards the daily totals.
Very briefly, my finds of the day were nine cents (all pennies) at the Kwick Kar Wash, four cents at another car wash, 10 cents (all pennies) at Sonic, one cent in the road at a traffic light, and 10 cents (one dime) at a Starbucks drive-thru.
Last night some baseball autograph sources told me that Mark McGwire, retired St. Louis Cardinal and 500 home run club member, would be at a local golf tournament. Bailey and I decided to go check it out. We ended up getting a parking space directly next to Mr. McGwire’s car, and there we waited for him to come out.
When Mr. McGwire appeared Bailey became so excited (you will have to read his blog for his side of the story) that he set off the panic alarm on his car. Mr. McGwire, clearly a bit concerned, promptly got into his car and drove away for about 10 feet. Three minutes later, after the swarm of golf course security descended upon us, Bailey was able to shut off his panic alarm. I had calmly walked over to Mr. McGwire, still laughing from the experience, and had gotten a baseball signed. Bailey joined us and also got an autograph. An associate of Mr. McGwire gave Bailey a hard time about the panic alarm, but as we both got the autograph it did not matter. All in all a good day.
